It is a completely different installation depending on what your floor construction is. If it is a new build and you still have to put a sand cement screed in then we would suggest using the screed system as it is incorporated and protected within the screed and you can have a variety of floor finishes on top. Also as the cable is installed within a screed (with insulation below) it then uses the screed as a storage heater and radiates the heat. You can also increase the heat output by bringing the cables closes together. If you do decide to change the floor covering then this will not affect the underfloor heating. The mat system is designed to be laid on top of an already constructed insulated floor under tiles. The benefit is you have a faster heat reaction time as the elements are below the tiled floor finish but would have to be changed if you decided to change your floor covering. This system is more suited to renovations rather than new builds
